Live Stock Shoots

Live Stock Shoots can be done either in situ for large animals or in my studio space if we are dealing with small animals that travel easily.

In situ animal portrait shoots require me to bring my camera, lenses, lighting and backdrops to your preferred location (subject to pre-approval – underwater and high-flying animals are currently out of my reach), so mileage and travel time are charged in addition to my hourly rate for the setup, the shoot and the processing time (includes costs for one photo-assistant).

A rule of thumb is to calculate for medium-sized animals (bigger than a goldfish and smaller than a new calf) that can be easily handled and moved around by their owner — these shoots will take 35 minutes for setup, two and one half hours to shoot plus up to three hours of post-shoot processing time to ensure that everything you get is “picture perfect”.

Animals that are easily handled by their owner and smaller than a new calf can be photographed at my location, and if so, no mileage and travel time will be charged.

Large animals (those bigger than a new calf and smaller than a Holstein bull) follow the same general outline for time frames, but are usually shot in natural light, and require booking “weather dates” in case of snits on the part of Mother Nature, who is definitely the shoot boss. Qualified handlers must be provided by the owner, along with proof of liability insurance up to $2M.

Hourly shoot rates for myself and one assistant are $85.00, and when necessary, travel time is $45.00/hr (figured from Cloverdale BC) plus mileage at the rate of $0.45/km. Post shoot processing time is billed at $45.00/hr.

“Pet Photo Party” shoots for up to six individual portraits shot in the same location and day are welcomed, and are priced based on my in situ shoot rates with time revised to allow for reduced setup time and split travel costs.

  Garden & Facility Shoots

In situ facility & garden shoots require me to bring my camera, lenses, and accessory lighting to your location, so mileage and travel time are charged in addition to my hourly rate for the setup, the shoot and the processing time (includes costs for one photo-assistant).

A rule of thumb is to calculate for the size of the facility or garden — generally, a large suburban garden will take three hours to shoot plus up to three hours of post-shoot processing time to ensure that everything you get is “picture perfect”.

Adding interior shots for marketing or showcasing purposes will double the shoot time and add half again the processing time. These shoots will require a familiarization and planning period prior to photographing and shoot times will vary depending on the size and complexity of the subject.

Large facilities with expansive grounds follow the same general task outlines, but are usually shot in natural light, and will require booking “weather dates” in case of snits on the part of Mother Nature, who is definitely the shoot boss since she controls the lighting. Sometimes these will require multiple shoot days or times to get the best light, but all can be negotiated and planned ahead of time.

Hourly shoot rates for myself and one assistant are $125.00, and when necessary, travel time is $45.00/hr (figured from Cloverdale BC) plus mileage at the rate of $0.45/km. Post shoot processing time is billed at $45.00/hr.
